I've had addiction problems in the past, but this by far has got me by the balls. It's almost like I can not function without it. actually street vicodin. Oxycodone and Norco. Usually 325/ 10mg (10 a day) $50.00 a day addiction. Do not have a doctor at this time. |

Are you doing this alone? Is this street vicodin or prescribed stuff? Step One: Tell your doctor. Don't try to fight this alone. Step Two: Talk therapy. Ask to get referred to an addiction specialist who knows *dialectic* cognitive-behavior methods. Before you start methadone, make sure a physician gets an EKG and plans to monitor your heart regularly. Edit: Damn that's expensive. Can you get a doctor? Are you a vet with Tricare? There are clinics with free care in different parts of the country... |

If you have had a vicodin addiction in the past, then you know what you have to do. You must be under the guidance of trained specialist to combat this. Please dont delay. Living life this way is no fun and it just boils down to living for your next pill |

I can help you. First by telling you there are probably a few million people that have taken the same path you did so you are not alone. And you can function without it. It's people like me that can't. I have a spine injury and have been on opiates for many years. Without them I can't walk or sit. If you don't have them the only thing you don't feel is 'buzzed'. The only way to beat it is if YOU want to stop,, no matter what anyone on here tells you. Until you have in your mind that you are done living like you are there are going to be problems. The easiest way is to find a methadone clinic in your area. They are all over in every state. You don't have to go to a doctor and get anything before you go. Part of the program is a check-up by a MD there at the clinic and is included in the cost. You do have to test positive for opiates to be accepted so don't go in thinking that testing 'dirty' is a bad thing,,,, in this case it's a good thing. There is a 14 day detox program that will work just fine for you if the only thing you have been doing is vicodin. If you have a past history of abuse problems you may want to ask them about a methadone maintenance plan. It's a program that you become a legal addict. It is strickly controlled by the DEA but it at least may help you get to the point that you can get help for ABUSE. That's your problem, not addiction. I would recommend the 14 day detox and not getting hooked on methadone in a maintenance program. I did and it took me almost a year to dose myself down 3mg at a time. Addiction is just a side-effect of using pain medications. I take hydrocodone, oxycodone, and morphine sulphate every day for a spine injury. But the same doctors that give me the medications know very well that they are addicting,,, and they also know very well how to get you off them when they are no longer needed. I spent some time abusing them for awhile and ended up in a methadone clinic myself. I've also been through withdrawls a few times,, you don't want to go that route unless you are willing to feel like you'd wish you would die for about a week and not get a good nights sleep for months!! They are no fun. That's the difference,,, not all addicts are abusers but all abusers will become addicts unless they get help or stop on their own. Your abusing pain meds got you addicted not the medication. If you want to just e-mail me and I will get back with you. I could help you better if you send me how much you have been taking and for how long. There is a lot of help out there for people that want it. I can let you know what you are up against and can give you some great links for help. Here is a good link for you to check out. health.discovery.com/ centers/ addiction/ addiction.html And here is one on methadone you should look at whitehousedrugpolicy.gov/ publications/ factsht/ methadone/ index.html By the way,,, if you have medicaid I believe it covers the methadone treatment. That should make all the taxpayers happy to know their money goes to help fund and pay for helping people become legal methadone addicts in maintenance programs. I know people that have been going to them for 20 years on taxpayers (medi-cal). Good luck and I hope you make it. It's not easy but it is worth it. I've seen so many people ruin their lives with abusing pain meds that it's one of the reasons I answer questions like this and admit to the world that I was an abuser/ addict. I've been in a pain management program for about 7 years without any problems with abuse issues. I've been to hell a few times and don't want to visit there again!!! The weird part is what you think of as 'fun' taking pain meds I dream of maybe one day not having to take them. But with the spine injury I have I will be on them until they learn to fix damaged spinal cords or until I die. PS: If you hve been doing 10, 10/ 325 hydrocodone's a day for more than a few months you are going to want to get some help. Trying to go cold turkey will just send you back out looking to score!! |
