Opiate Abuse: Methadone Facts

Question: My best friend, a single mom with a 20 year old son in rehab for opiate abuse :?

Oxycontin, Methadone, perhaps other pain killers, allows him to drink beer and smoke Marijuana. She tells me these substances do not interfere with some drug he takes to wean off from the opiates he is in rehab for. I disagree. Can anyone who'd know, medical and rehab personnel invited tell me what they think about this? Is this 20 year old in danger drinking beer and smoking weed during his rehab period?

Of Course!!! He should be attempting to give up all drugs and alcohol. They will just provide him with the 'atmosphere' to go back to using opiates. I am sure that the rehab center is not going to condone this behaviour.

All of these drugs are central nervous system (CNS) depressants, as is alcohol. When taken together they depress the central nervous system and can cause it to shut down, temporarily or permanently which can cause death. Mixing drugs and alcohol is a deadly combination and yes beer is alcohol just the same as wine, whiskey, and vodka etc. are. Weed is also a CNS depressant. Sounds like your friend is trying to kill her son. Maybe she wants him dead because he's been so much of a burden on the family. Maybe that's why he abuses drugs? Mommy's been bad to him and that's how he "escapes " the reality of having an evil mother. She sounds like she belongs in rehab too. By the way, weed and the other drugs are illegal and can result in jail time too (unless of course he has a prescription for the medications).

It appears that he's too busy stepping on his testicles to actually "rehab ". He's pissing away everyones time & money!!!! If he's not applying himself to the program get his butt out of there so someone who wants to be there is not influenced by him. Rehab must be different in your community!!!!
