Question: 40mg of methadone earlier today...too much?

Hi, earlier today I took 40mg of methadone. I snorted 20mg, and consumed the other 20 mg immediately afterward, so those didn't kick in until 2 hours later. That was all at 2pm today, and it is now 12:30. The thing is, I'm kinda freaked out now. My breathing is a little bit more shallow than what I'm used to when I take opiates/ opoids. But I still feel clear- headed, and I can walk and talk normally. My pulse is still normal. But I still nod off when I'm just laying down. I've taken 20mg a day for the past two days. I normally do about 50mg of oxycodone a week. I weigh 150lbs, I'm 5'7, and 20 years old. Do you think this was too much? Am I gonna be ok? I know I will be fine If I stay up, but I'm really tired and want to go to bed, but I'm kinda scared to go to sleep. I also smoked a joint around 7:30pm. Sorry, I meant I usually take 50mg of oxycodone in a month, usually all in one day.

Ya gotta be careful. Stay hydrated maybe eat? Obviously this was done for recreational purposes, ammirite? Itll be more fun if you start off lower. Watch your breathing. Call a pharmacy and ask em if youre that worried. I bet youll be fine:p It makes your breathing like that usually, not that thats a good thing

40mg of methadone is the typical beginning dose at methadone clinics for ADDICTS......if you are true in what you say then you are not an addict and don't use narcotic pills daily........so to answer your question: yes AND no........yes its to much for YOU at once but not for an addict.......will you be ok: YES.....you didn't take a lethal amount you just took more then your body is used to so it kicked your butt........just wait at LEAST 24 hours before taking anything else because methadone builds up in your system and takes longer to be released.

I really have to beg to differ with Belle. 40mg for a recreational user IS A LETHAL DOSE! 40mg is by no means a low dose. In fact for an opiate naive person, which you are since you are not a daily long term user, 40mg is a very, very high dose and it can definitely kill you. If you are still alive you are lucky. There are people who die from 15-20mg all the time. There are even reports of kids dying from 10mg. This is not a drug you want to mess with. If you like the opiate high stick to oxys, percs and vicodin. Stay the hell away from methadone! It's not worth it. Methadone is not like other opioids. You should also know that because methadone has a half life of 24-36 hours the level of the drug in your blood will accumulate if you take it several days in a row. So if you take 20mg three days in a row you may be fine the first two days but by the third day the 20mg you take is added to what you already have in your blood and it reaches toxic levels. I don't recommend using methadone for recreational purposes at all but if you do never take more than 20mg and never take it more than one time in a row. Remember that even 20mg can be fatal. A lot of thing play in when it comes to how methadone effects you so even though one particular dose was fine last time this time it may be too much and it kills you. Another thing you should know is that because methadone lasts so long you could stop breathing and die long after you stop feeling the effects. You could die in your sleep as much as 24 hours after you'e taken the methadone. If you made it this time you're lucky. Please never, ever take that much methadone again. Stick to oxys that are not as complicated as methadone is.
