Question: How long does withdrawl last from methadone?

I've been taking methadone for a long time, the precription isn't mine tho. I'm trying to quit cold turkey, but it's very hard and it's only been 4 days.

In my line of work we often deal with those on methadone. It isn't something that is easily shared. First a doctor must have a special license to prescribe in the first place and the drug is highly controlled. The meth patients we see have it delivered by the clinic they attend and the single dose bottles come in a locked container that we must sign for. Therefore I have to wonder how you've been sharing for such a long time. Personally I think something is off with this question. Meantime many of those that withdraw from the meth take about a month to recover. A step down dosing is recommended for getting off but under the circumstances of methadone supply requirements we usually see them go cold turkey. EMT Paramedic in a correctional facility

There isn't any set amount of time it takes to get off of it. you shouldn't quit cold turkey, you should wean yourself off of it, otherwise you can get very sick and sometimes its so unbearable you may even have to go to the hospital. the easiest way to do it is to go to a detox center, sometimes they have them in hospitals, and a lot of the time insurance covers it. the longer you've been taking the methadone and the amount you've been taking at a time both have a say in how long it will take for you to get completely sober. did you know that methadone is more addicting than heroin?

Don't quit methadone cold turkey or you will have some really bad withdrawal symptoms. It will feel like you have the flu, bad stomach cramps and backache. You will just feel sick to your stomach. Weed yourself off them. Take a little less each day for about a week or so until your body adjusts to it and slowly quit them.
