I had an old gf who got hooked on heroin. The methadone was not of any assistance to get her off. I did have a friend (not the same person) that I assisted with an at home detox from heroin and he stayed off but that detox was scary. Anyhow I don't believe methadone in any way is of benefit in getting off heroin. The most successful treatments are done inpatient in a facility. Basically they put you in a medical coma, so you are knocked out during the physical withdrawal. That is really the most humane way to do it. |

In this case it is very, very serious and I would only get advice from a doctor and a therapist to address this issue, it is all about the person, the diagnosis, the level of addiction, their willpower and the level of help. Whatever the whole issue here you are having I want to express my condolences to you and whomever is hurting. We care, I remain, Your Assistant |

I think it is great!! Methadone is the only thing that I know for sure that works. It keeps a person from going through harsh withdrawal, and at the same time helps stabilize them so they can live as close to normal lives as possible. It stops them from stealing to buy drugs, or doing wrong to get money for drugs. Heroin is hard and almost impossible to kick without it depending on how long the person has been on it. Eventually, the person on methadone will be weened off it slowly but their is no rush. Methadone is not bad. It is good and as a last resort for those who can't stay clean, have tried treatment before and failed, this is the best thing for them. Do not put down the person doing this. It is a very brave and smart step to take in order to recover from their addiction. Be supportive if you can and don't judge or tease them. It will not only help them,. but will help you too if you care about them. Good luck |

It helps deter withdrawal symptoms b/ the physician controls the % of active ingredient in it (as to wean off and become less dependent). So, as treatments go, it's very effective and a great thing... the people who are heroin addicts, well ill let you decide that. |

Dope sickness only stretched on indefinitely, so far as I could tell from the kats in Santa Cruz. |
