No no no no no! Don't you dare mix anything with methadone.. many friends have died from just doing methadone, valium, and more. Methadone is used to get off of opiates if you didn't already know so I'd say get vikes or morphine for your pain. |

No doctor in their right mind gives a prescription for morphine unless you are immobile or dying. Only a loon would prescribe both methadone is a highly addictive opiate that, if isn't controlled extremely carefully, kills more than it helps. Are you a hype? |

If it's chronic pain, then maybe. Methadone is actually a great long acting pain reliever. It has to be titrated slowly as it has an extremely long half-life (24+ hours) but it works great. The methadone they use to to help addicts get off heroine is usually in liquid form. The methadone they use for pain is in pill form. Most doctors will give you something else for breakthrough pain, I've never seen them give morphine but Vicodin/ Lortab or Percocet are typically given. Before my back surgery, methadone was the only thing that kept me functioning I was in so much pain! And, yes, they do have a long-acting morphine and immediate release morphine. MSContin is the form of morphine given for long-acting relief (in pill form). I've found it's not very effective, however for me. Did y'all know that oxycodone (the active ingredient in Percocet) is 1 1/ 2 times stronger at relieving pain than morphine? |

Being that both drugs are opiates it would be redundant, so the answer to your question is no. It's true that methadone is given to heroin addicts but it's also given to addicts of prescription pain meds. Although it's an opiate, methadone doesn't give you the same euphoric high as that of heroin, oxycodone or hydrocodone etc. Because it's a chronic condition, most doctors will prescribe a variety of drugs that are not "habit forming " for you to try before setteling on any opiate. Whatever you end up getting, I would say proceed very carefully. It doesn't take long for one to get addicted to either one of these drugs and believe me when I tell you the withdrawals suck as well as being a slave to it. With methadone you have the added bonus of becoming a lard-ass if taken long term because it effects your metabolism. Even if you've never had weight issues before you will easily gain a huge amount of weight which will effect your self esteem. Good luck to you and I hope you can find a suitable alternative. |
