Can methadone use for pain management for 8 years cause a woman's menstruation to cease?

Question: Can methadone use for pain management for 8 years cause a woman's menstruation to cease?

I have rods and screws in my spine after 3 spinal surgeries. After 10 years on pain management, I realized I was totally dependent on opiates not just for pain. I discussed this with my doctor and wanted no more opiates and was going through severe withdrawals, not to mention still in terrible spinal pain. We discussed the use of methadone and we agreed I would try it. It helped me rid of that awful withdrawal and helped the pain, not as much as the pain pills but I also agreed to spinal injections to aid the methadone......fantastic job it does. Anyhow, I started the methadone at age 38 and now am 45 and I have not had a period since I was 38 and many many tests to see if I was going through menopause were all negative up until and including a week ago. I also received a regime of hormones to bring on my period, no avail! So the only thing that has been different is the methadone usage. All the doctors say they "don't think so' what kind of answer is that? What do you all think?

I really do not think Methadone would cease your periods since it has NO hormones and would not affect your hormones. Being age 45 it could be early menopause. I would seek the advice of a gynecologist if this really bothers you. good luck!
