Can methadone use for pain management for 8 years cause a woman's menstruation to cease?
I have rods and screws in my spine after 3 spinal surgeries. After 10 years on pain management, I realized I was totally dependent on opiates not just for pain. I discussed this with my doctor and wanted no more opiates and was going through severe withdrawals, not to mention still in terrible spinal pain. We discussed the use of methadone and we agreed I would try it. It helped me rid of that awful withdrawal and helped the pain, not as much as the pain pills but I also agreed to spinal injections to aid the methadone......fantastic job it does. Anyhow, I started the methadone at age 38 and now am 45 and I have not had a period since I was 38 and many many tests to see if I was going through menopause were all negative up until and including a week ago. I also received a regime of hormones to bring on my period, no avail So the only thing that has been different is the methadone usage. All the doctors say they " don't think so' what kind of answer is that? What do you all think?

Why is methadone used to treat heroin addiction when it's also an opiate just like heroin?

i know someone who is on methadone maintance and also has hepatitis c, has been offered interferon alfa and ribavirn treatment for this but is'nt sure about the long term effects of methadone use

I know very little about methadone, i want to know what dose people take and for what? also how long it is used for? i've heard a lot of people say they've been on it for years and i find that quite disheartening, it just seems like i am swapping one drug addiction for another I also want to know of it's success rate for leaving patients clean of all drugs long term? If anyone has ANY helpful information about Methadone treatment i would really appreciate it. I don't know anyone personally who has been through a methadone program so it would be great to hear anything from people who have had firsthand experience with Methadone. I feel about out of my depth here and need some advise Thanks in advance.

My father had been perscribed methadone for the past 15 yrs. He died two weeks ago his autopsy showed a high dose of methadone and cirrosis. Is it normal for methadone to be perscribed is high doses for such a long period of time he was using it to rehabilite from drug use

Why Is Methadone Used In Treating Addiction?
Why is methadone used to help people who are addicted to drugs such as heroin when methadone itself has similar effects and is addictive? What does that solve? Just curious. Thanks
